Backyard Book Fair

Have you heard of this company? They came last year for our spring book fair and did an amazing job! Check them out at: http://www.backyardbookfair.com/
Our book fall book fair is scheduled for Oct. 22-26th. Oct. 22nd is actually a half day for students and the afternoon will be teacher meetings. Also during the afternoon, I will be hosting a "Teacher Preview Hour" in which teachers can check out the books and make out their wishlists while enjoying some yummy treats! There will be some door prizes as well! Parent night for the book fair is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 25th from 4-7. We will also be having a PTO sponsored Fall Festival.

Teachers and students are going to participate in a storybook pumpkin contest. Each classroom will select a book character to decorate a pumpkin in their likeness. Judging will occur on Oct. 25th and the winning classrooms (one K-2 and one 3rd - 5th) will receive a $15 certificate for books at the book fair. Be on the lookout for the library's pumpkin.

Only 8 days until fall break...

Where has the time gone?! It seems like only yesterday it was August 1st and school was just beginning. Things are hopping in the library (as usual). We have read 3,000+ books and over 15 million words! AMAZING! However, last year we read over 30,000 books so we need to pick up the slack!

This year I am trying to do a few things differently. I am testing alongside the students and at the end of the year, those students with the same # of points as me, or more than me will be invited to a party in the library to celebrate our accomplishments! Thanks to my friend, Mrs. Ann, for the idea!

Recently, I set the goal for all students at 85% in AR. I am working on the rest of the AR plan and hope to have it finalized after fall break. So hurry on back and check out what's going on in the CES library!

Summer is almost over...

I am wishing for the 100+ degree weather again and NO that doesn't make me crazy. I cannot take the humidity now - the air is so heavy! The 100+ weather made the pool a warm 92 and oh my how I LOVE that! Anyway, back to school is here. Today I am working - yes working at school! I moved my fridge outside to defrost, scheduled the painter for a consultation, gathered the trash, and am currently searching blogs for new ideas. That is working - right? :)

As always, I have so many things I want to try this year! It is so exciting to be a teacher at the beginning of the year when all things are possible!

Question for you - if our goal last year was to read 15,000 books AND we ended up reading more than 30,000 -  what should be the goal for this year? I am thinking 25,000 AND bringing our school wide average up to 85%. Ideas?
